By building technical skills, the group helps members preserve cultural heritage, tackle unemployment, and inform national decision-making and climate resilience. The long-term goals/key objectives of Kiribati Women in Mapping (KWIM) focus on social and economic equality through technological empowerment. Lower Unemployment: Creating career pathways for marginalized women and girls to drastically reduce female unemployment. Achieve Sector Parity: Increasing the representation and leadership of women within the local GIS and technology fields. Boost National Climate Resilience: Expanding OpenStreetMap data to map climate-vulnerable communities for national adaptation planning.Scale Educational Access: Reaching remote outer islands to provide nationwide access to spatial mapping training. Influence Policy: Promoting structural gender equality in workspaces and advocating for inclusive government policies.
