MaptimeWgtn started out as a group of GIS professionals keen to build a community space for folks interested in cartography and geospatial technology. We all enjoyed the larger geospatial conferences, but these only happened once or twice a year, and were sometimes prohibitively expensive! While running our events in the evening, we realised that attention spans wavered a lot towards the end of sessions, and folks weren’t networking after the presentations. By providing a bit of food and drink, courtesy of the OSGeo Oceania Microgrants, we were able to be responsible hosts, and give folks an opportunity to mix and mingle over dinner after the formal presentations. Since it’s inception in 2021, MaptimeWgtn continues to hold regular events and grow its audience, bringing together a community of like minded geospatial professionals and enthusiasts in Wellington.
